A Note from Parish Pres. Regarding Potential Tropical Cyclone 2 (TC 2)

Wednesday July 10, 2019 10:13 am - 4205 Views - Posted By Administration

Parish President Gordon Dove would like to keep our parish's citizens informed of all preparations going on in regard to the anticipated severe storm event.

President Dove chaired a meeting yesterday with all TPCG Department Heads along with representatives of the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District (TLCD) and several representatives of our local engineering companies to ensure that everything is being done to protect our citizens.

TPCG has 193 of 194 fully operational pumps working on float switches. One pump is down waiting for a warranty replacement engine. All pump stations are checked daily and are ran to ensure they are fully operable. All fuel tanks for all pump stations are being topped off. All of our SCADA and telemetry controlled major pump stations are active on line and are working as designed.

All ditches and culverts are being checked and cleaned. Clay Naquin's Operation Clean Sweep crews are cleaning debris and trash from drainage ditches and alongside parish roads.

A webinar with the National Weather Center has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. this morning. Another meeting will be held at our Emergency Operations Center with all TPCG Department Heads in Gray at 2:00 p.m., where we will be getting the latest information from the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparations (GOHSEP) and the National Weather Center. This will be followed by a meeting of all members of our Emergency Support Function team at 3:00 p.m.

We are working very closely with the TLCD, as is normal for these situations. In anticipation of the severe storm weather system affecting Terrebonne Parish, the TLCD has already closed the Upper Little Caillou and Placid Canal flood gates.

The following flood gates will close this morning:

  • Humble Canal
  • Bush Canal
  • Pointe aux Chene
  • Bayou Grand Caillou
  • Lower Dularge

The Bubba Dove flood gate on the Houma Navigational Canal will close sometime after 4 p.m. this afternoon.

President Dove has asked all citizens to help with this severe storm event by checking your ditches and catch basins and cleaning them if you can. Remove trash cans and any loose items that could possibly block any drainage ditches or culverts. If you cannot physically do this yourself, please call our Drainage Department at (985) 873-6717 and we will send out a crew ASAP.

Please prepare for the worst and pray for the best, as always. Thank you for helping us to keep you safe and dry.
