Terrebonne Parish Receives Grant for Home Elevations
Houma, LA-Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government has been awarded an additional $3 million to assist residents with the elevation of their storm damaged properties. These funds come to Terrebonne Parish from FEMA as part of their Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) program.
This funding will be used to buyout one home and to elevate an additional 12 flood prone structures. Funds from this grant will also be used to develop the parish’s Hazard Mitigation Plan five year update as required by FEMA.
This award brings the total amount of Hazard Mitigation Assistance grants received by Terrebonne Parish to $12.6 million to elevate 60 structures since 2010. This is in addition to 225 homes elevated or acquired with Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) disaster funding.
The kickoff meetings for the successful applicants will be held in the next month. The property owners will receive an invitation in the mail.
Residents should contact the Terrebonne Parish Recovery Assistance and Mitigation Planning Department at (985) 873-6565 with any questions.
“Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is committed to seeking all available funding to help residents elevate their homes,” stated Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet. “Home elevations in addition to levees and coastal restoration are all critical for Terrebonne Parish,” added President Claudet.
