National Mosquito Control Awareness Week

Cajun Mosquito Control, LLC is taking the opportunity during National Mosquito Control Awareness Week to educate the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in their daily lives and the important service provided by mosquito control workers throughout the United States. Each year the week of June 26 is declared National Mosquito Control Awareness Week by the American Mosquito Control Association. This year the Awareness Week is June 22-28, 2014. CMC reminds all area residents that removing standing water around your home or business after any rainfall, tidal event or sewage-water leakage, will help reduce mosquito breeding sites and overall populations. Preventative measures include draining pet water bowls, horse and cattle water troughs, bird baths, plant bowls, unused swimming pools, buckets, kids toys, ice chest or any other container that will hold water. These measures should be done every three to five days or after each event. Repair damaged screens on windows and doors, cleaning any clogged roof gutters so they can drain properly. Reminders like these will reduce the potential of mosquito egg laying and breeding sites that could result in the production of thousands of mosquitoes in your area, each year. “It is very important at this time to know that we are entering the peak arbovirus season,” Says CMC owner Jessie Boudreaux. “Avoid mosquitoes if possible and avoid their peak activity times of dusk and dawn.” Other precautions include wearing light colored, long sleeve clothing and avoid using colognes or perfumes. Always remember to wear insect repellant, preferably one containing DEET when there is a chance of coming in contact with mosquitoes. Read and follow the label. “Again, May through October are the peak months for arbovirus activity” Boudreaux said. “But, virus activity can occur year round. It just takes a few minutes to enact these precautions. For more information visit the CMC website at cajunmosquitocontrol.com where you can email in a spray request or ask a question if needed.
