Parish President Announces Deployment of Tiger Boom to Prepare for High River Waters

Saturday May 25, 2019 02:54 pm - 3472 Views - Posted By Administration

Parish President Gordon E. Dove is pleased to announce that GOHSEP (Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness) is delivering 13,000 linear feet of 24" diameter rubber flood protection boom, more commonly know as Tiger Boom, to our Public Works facility in Gray later today.

We have the National Guard, along with several of the volunteer Fire Departments in the Gibson/Bayou Black area, lined up to work with the Parish's Public Works Department to deploy this boom behind all residents' homes along North Bayou Black Drive from the area near Hanson Canal to north of the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church starting at approximately 10:00 a.m. this coming Tuesday morning. This is in anticipation of further high water coming from the Atchafalaya River in Morgan City as a result of the probable opening of the Morganza Floodgates on June 2 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Please know that President Dove is committed to doing everything possible to keep flooding of this Parish's citizens' homes, garages, yards, and streets to a minimum. President Dove will keep you all posted as things develop further.
