Parish Pres. Announces Recovery & Restoration Operations as TS Barry Moves Out of Our Area

Sunday July 14, 2019 08:47 am - 3268 Views - Posted By Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness

As Tropical Storm Barry moves out of our area, both the wind and the rain are beginning to slack off.  Recovery and restoration operations will be getting underway today and will continue for as long as necessary.  Residents of Terrebonne Parish should take care to limit travel on local streets and roads so as to not impede or interfere with utility crews and trucks working to restore power in those areas that have experienced power outages.  These crews will be working as quickly and as safely as possible to get the lights and air conditioners back on.

For those in the parish who have run out of food as a result of a power outage, the Food Bank is preparing Special Food Packets designed to get you through a few days until power is restored.  The Food Bank will be open tomorrow (Monday, July 15), Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday for distribution of these special packets and regular distribution.  Extra staff will be on hand to assist the public and the Food Bank will stay open past closing time if necessary on these days.  For more information please call the Food Bank at (985) 851-5523.  The Food Bank is located at 254 Magnolia Street in Houma, LA

Storm damage debris removal is underway in the parish.  Residents are reminded to stack storm debris in the public right-of-way for pick-up.  It is important to avoid stacking debris on or near water meter vaults, fire hydrants, or any above-ground utility (such as overhead power lines) as this could cause damage and seriously impede pick-up operations.  Vegetative debris must be separated from construction and demolition debris, as these will be collected separately.  Only loose debris will be collected; nothing bagged.  Household garbage collection will resume its normal schedule on Monday, July 15, 2019.  Please check tpcg.org/solidwaste for additional information and updates on the debris removal process.

The parish’s Good Earth Transit System will resume regular scheduled service in Houma and Thibodaux on Monday, July 15, 2019.
