Terrebonne Parish to Host Geocoinfest 2019

You may or may not be familiar with Geocaching--a free app-based virtual GPS "scavenger hunt"--but did you know that Houma has Louisiana's first and only official GeoTour? Houma has been synonymous with Geocaching in the southern states for quite some time now, and this year the Houma area will get the chance to host it's first "mega" Geocaching event.

Geocoinfest is an annual event that travels nationally. Previous host cities have included Seattle, WA; Long Beach, CA; and St. Louis, MO just to name a few. This year, Geocoinfest 2019 will call Bayou Country it's home from September 26-29, 2019. When presented with Terrebonne Parish's unique culture, beautiful wetlands, fascinating folklore, and delicious food, the nomination board just couldn't say no to a good time in Southeast Louisiana.

Some of the highlights of this event include:

  • Early Bird Pool Party at the host hotel, Courtyard Marriott
  • Mardi Gras Experience at the Krewe of Hercules Den where cachers will get to tour real Mardi Gras floats, eat Cajun cuisine, and dance the night away to the sounds of Powerhouse Band of Houma
  • Geocoinfest where cachers will get to interact with Geocaching vendors and sponsors, go on GeoTours, watch seminars, mingle with veteran and new cachers, and more at the host hotel
  • See You Later, Alligator wrap-up event at the Greenwood Gator Farm

The event is expected to draw upwards of 500 avid Geocaching enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada who will be in town for an average of 3 nights interacting with our businesses, restaurants, lodging facilities, attractions, and more. The Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau encourages the community to take an active part in welcoming these Geocachers and showing them what southern hospitality is all about here in Bayou Country. The HACVB also encourages any locals interested in Geocaching to consider attending the event and becoming active in the Geocaching community.
