Tree Board Grants

The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board is proud to announce that it has received two separate grants that will further its mission of restoring the urban tree canopy and aiding storm water management in the parish. “The Apache Foundation has graciously awarded 100 5-gallon trees, a mixture of Savannah Hollies, American Hollies and Crape Myrtles, for the Tree Board to use in boulevard, street and park plantings throughout Terrebonne Parish,” said Sybil Guidry, Terrebonne Parish Tree Board Chairwoman. “We are excited to get these trees into the ground as the planting season begins. We feel like these trees will go a long way in restoring the urban and rural canopy in the parish.” Apache Foundation is the philanthropic unit of Apache Corporation, a large independent oil and gas exploration and production company with headquarters in Houston. Since launching the program in 2006, Apache Foundation has donated nearly 1,000,000 trees to be planted in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Wyoming. In addition to the Apache Foundation grant, the Tree Board and the Downtown Development Corporation also received a $5,000.00 matching grant from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to develop a master landscape plan for a one-mile stretch of Main Street downtown and for the Bayou Walk currently being constructed along Bayou Terrebonne. “Once completed and implemented, we are hoping to use the landscape plans for Main Street and Bayou Walk as templates for landscaping streets throughout the parish and future segments of the Bayou Walk,” said Ellen Doskey, Secretary of the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board. “We anticipate that these plans and the resulting plantings will make a strong aesthetic and environmental impact in the downtown area.” For more information and to access the application electronically, please click here for more details.
