UPDATE: Covid-19 Safety Information for the Annual Christmas Parade on Dec. 5

Parish President Gordon E. Dove is pleased to announce that the annual Christmas Parade will roll on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 4:30pm. In order to avoid conflict with voting poll locations on election run-off day, the parade floats will exit the Terrebonne High School parking lot onto Saint Charles Street (they will not be running along Stadium Drive). The official starting point of the parade will be at the intersection of Saint Charles Street and Main Street so paradegoers are encouraged to line up along either side of Main Street on the THS side of the intersection. The parade will then follow its traditional route along Main Street, turning right onto Barrow Street, and will end at the intersection of Barrow Street and Point Street. Sanitized barricades will be placed in advance along both sides of the entire route. Signs will be placed at least 24 hours in advance of the parade giving an indication as to when barricades will be placed and asking that no one park vehicles along the route before the parade. Paradegoers are to stand behind the barricades and will not be allowed to approach the floats.

Float captains have been issued COVID-19 safety practices to distribute to all of the riders. All float riders are required to wear masks at all times. All candy throws will be prepackaged and bagged. All floats will be sanitized prior to the parade and hand sanitizers will be provided to all riders.

HPD officers and TPSO deputies will be positioned along the route for traffic control and public safety. All paradegoers are encouraged to practice social distancing by gathering in small household groups and are encouraged to wear face masks or shields. Additionally, paradegoers are encouraged to wash and/or use hand sanitizers, to dispose of trash in proper receptacles, and to limit physical contact and cough/sneeze away from others. HPD will have units ahead of the parade dispensing masks to paradegoers who request them. Garbage cans and boxes will be placed along the route. A port-a-let will be placed at the staging area at THS parking lot, the Courthouse Square, and the disbanding area at Town Hall. All three will have hand washing stations and will be sanitized prior to placement and will be removed promptly following the parade event.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Courthouse Square for the tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 pm along with Parish President Dove, Sheriff Tim Soignet, and members of the Parish Council, and other elected officials present. All are encouraged to attend. Santa and Mrs. Claus will remain at the Courthouse Square to allow for socially distanced photos. The event will end promptly at 8 pm.

Crews will be following the parade to remove the barricades and law enforcement will reopen the roads when deemed safe to do so. Street sweepers will run in the early morning hours before and after the parade to sanitize and clean the streets. For those who are sick, at high risk, or have concerns about COVID-19 safety, please stay safe at home.
