Terrebonne Parish Library Receives $1000 Sensory Kit Grant

The Terrebonne Parish Library received a $1,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support summer literacy. The local grant funded the purchase of ten Sensory Story Time at Home kits.

The Sensory Story Time at Home Kits aim to address the unique challenges faced by the families of children that have sensory processing disorders and other learning disabilities. Each kit contains themed books, instructions, and activities which were picked out to suit their specific needs.

Caregivers who are in good standing with the library can check out the kits to use at home. They will be available at the Information Desk in the Children's Department of the Main Library, located at 151 Library Drive in Houma

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports organizations that promote literacy through adult, family, summer, and youth programs. The Foundation also offers a student referral program for individuals interested in learning how to read, speak English, or prepare for the high school equivalency exam.

Referrals for free, local literacy services are available online here or through referral cards found in the Learn to Read brochures that are available at the cash register of every Dollar General store.
