Terrebonne Parish Awarded Funds to Elevate Repetitive Loss Structures Houma, LA- Terrebonne Parish was awarded FEMA funding to elevate Severe Repetitive Loss structures throughout the Parish. The $2.8M award was the second award of this year . Earlier the Parish was awarded $1.37M in additional funds to wind harden the Government Tower. In the past year, the Parish has also been awarded $1.5M for the elevation of repetitive loss structures, $258,726 to harden the windows and doors at the Generating Station, engineering fees for the hardening of the Courthouse Annex, and $1.5M for a safe north of Hwy 90. The Houma Police Department is starting construction on the $488,000 retrofit to replace the windows, doors, and roof funded earlier. All of these activities are intended to increase the resilience of the community by ensuring that government can function and serve the public immediately after a storm. By strengthening the facilities and protecting critical staff who do not evacuate, the recovery after storms will be faster and residents will experience less disruption. The Parish is awaiting notification of approval for $9.8M in other grants to elevate homes, and $1M for a safe room on the east side to protect first responders during a storm. Funding for the Safe Room East is expected in June. If so, it will be the first project of the newly approved Hazard Mitigation Plan Update for Terrebonne Parish to be funded. The plan, also funded by FEMA, was adopted by the Parish Council on March 25th. ###
