Requesting Buyouts and Elevations

Monday February 09, 2009 09:33 am - 2459 Views

The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Department of Planning and Zoning has received hundreds of requests for elevating homes in the wake of Hurricane’s Ike and Gustav. The Parish is setting priorities for helping residents rebuild, to prepare for future hurricanes, and to plan for future growth. In order to assess the demand for buyout and elevation programs, we would like interested parties to send us a letter of intent. Let us know if you are looking to sell or elevate. Note: If you have already come in for a permit and let the clerk know that you want to elevate, it is likely that you are already counted. The database has several categories that the clerks choose to identify people interested in elevating. All of those people will receive information about elevation programs when applications for funding are available by the federal government. If you already have a building permit and told the clerk you wanted to elevate, you DO NOT have to also fill out this letter of interest. If we haven’t heard from you, please fill out a letter of interest. These are available online at www.tpcg.org in the “News and Announcements” section on the home page or at the Government Towers, 8026 Main street, Suite 402, Houma, Louisiana 70360. If it is difficult for you to access a paper form or print one from the computer, just write a note yourself saying “I want the parish to purchase my home at X address” or “I want help from the parish to elevate my home at X address” and send it in to the address above, attention: Jennifer Gerbasi. The letter of interest does not create any obligations for the parish or the homeowner. It is a tool to let us know how many people want which services from the Hazard Mitigation section of the department.
