Houma Police Department re-institutes the “Honor Guard” program. Sergeant Daniel Belanger, Fraternal Order of Police, Houma Police Department, is the facilitator of the HPD Honor Guard program. The Honor Guard Program consists of highly trained and disciplined officers who assist with various types of presentations. The presentation offers an “expression of respect” to the American Flag and to the person(s) who are being honored at the event. The Honor Guard has been part of the Houma Police Department for many years, but has not been very active. As a part of it’s goals and objectives for 2009, The Houma Police Department wants to inspire officers to develop this training and discipline and to be more of an active participant in events throughout the Parish.
