Rougarou Fest to be held October 21-22, 2017

The Rougarou Fest will be October 21-22, 2017, in downtown Houma. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival will feature live music, food, drinks, arts and crafts, activities for kids, carnival rides, a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, and the Krewe Ga Rou Parade.

The costume contest will be on Saturday, October 21, 2017, on the courthouse steps. Registration will be from 2 to 4:50 p.m., and contest entry is free. Contestants may enter only one category, and each category has a limit of 100 participants. Categories are: pets, most creative, funniest, scariest, movie characters, kids’ costumes – 5 and under, and kids’ costumes 6-12. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category. A best overall costume winner will be chosen from those who place in all categories.  

The Krewe Ga Rou Parade starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October, 21, 2017. The parade features decorated boats, giant puppets, dancing zombies and witches, ghouls handing out candy, and the Rougarou Queen. The parade begins at Town Hall on Barrow Street, turns left on Main Street, and disbands at Grinage and Main.
