Terrebonne Parish's first Juvenile Detention Center opened its doors for operation on September 1, 1998, which housed 60 juveniles. The facility held 20 females and 40 males. Since then, on May 12, 2016, the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex opened the doors on a new facility. This 32-bed facility houses 8 females and 24 males within the manageable confines of a 4-unit single-cell setting, with eight single-cell rooms on each unit. The 25,000 square foot facility, located in Gray, Louisiana, was constructed at a cost of 9 million dollars, and the structure sits at +10 feet above sea level.
As a branch of public safety, we consider the service our facility provides to the community important in providing quality care to our youths close to home. In our efforts to keep our community safe, we are returning our juveniles to their perspective communities in an improved state to make positives changes for a positive future.
When available, the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex rents out bed space to out-of-parish governments. The charge is $256.00 per day. In doing this, relief is provided to local taxpayers.
