Our Mission

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance payments directly to a participating landlord. These payments are provided under a contract executed between the Public Housing Agency (Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government) and the landlord on behalf of an eligible participant. The purpose of this contract is to guarantee that eligible participants reside in decent, safe, and sanitary housing.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is not an emergency program. It is as an ongoing program that provides rental assistance through a contract executed with a participating landlord for a one-year period. This contract can be renewed annually provided all criteria for recertification is satisfied.

Clients are served from a waiting list. New names are taken for the waiting list only when it is anticipated that the clients currently on the list will be served. The waiting list is opened after public notification. A new catalyst to be used will be the TPCG website in addition to the normal avenues of publication.

There are currently four (4) components of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program being administered by this Division. The components are:

  • Housing Choice Vouchers
  • Family Self-Sufficiency
  • Single Room Occupancy
  • Project-Based Vouchers

Housing Choice Voucher

The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance to eligible households through the issuance of a voucher for participation. There are 528 Vouchers on this program.

Family Self-Sufficiency

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) provides eligible Section 8 families with an opportunity to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency by combining housing assistance with other public and private resources. There are 38 slots allocated within the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program to implement the Family Self-Sufficiency component.

Single Room Occupancy

The Single Room Occupancy Program has 10 slots and is a program that is allocated to address the single men in our community that are of the homeless population.

Project-Based Voucher

The Project-Based Voucher (PBV) Program offers rental housing options at specific housing locations. Assistance is attached to particular rental units, meaning if you live in a rental unit under the PBV Program and move, the assistance stays with the unit. To receive assistance for a PBV unit a family must first be on the PBV waiting list. The PHA refers families from its waiting list to the project owner to fill vacancies.

2023 Conditional PBV Awards from Competitive Selection:
