“Terrebonne Parish officials are closely monitoring the ongoing BR Horizon oil spill,” stated Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet Thursday afternoon. Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness officials are in constant contact with representatives of the United States Coast Guard, British Petroleum, and other Federal, State, and local officials. While at this time, the spill still appears to be an east of the Mississippi River event, Terrebonne Parish is keenly aware that this event is ongoing and the conditions that effect the movement of the oil are subject to many variables. Terrebonne Parish Officials suggest residents to visit the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Website for information concerning the spill. The website contains links to other websites with up to date information as well as contact numbers for various aspects of this event. The Terrebonne Parish Offices of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness in conjunction with the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority will be holding an information session on Friday April 30 for members of the local seafood industry to discuss the effects of the recent oil spill in the Gulf Mexico. This session will begin at 1:30 pm in the Terrebonne Parish Council Meeting Room located on the second floor of the parish Government Tower (8026 Main Street Houma, LA 70360).
