Tropical Storm Isaac AM Update Parish President Michel Claudet issued a Declaration of Emergency in anticipation of Tropical Storm Isaac. In addition to this declaration, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government issued a voluntary evacuation beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday (August 27) morning, for the low lying areas of Terrebonne Parish, especially for those residents who reside outside the protective levee system. All Terrebonne Parish public and private schools will be closed on Monday and will remain closed until further notice. All classes at Fletcher Technical Community College will be cancelled through Wednesday. Terrebonne Parish opened a shelter at the Houma Municipal Auditorium located at 800 Verret Street. The shelter opened at 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning. Residents needing transportation to the parish shelter should contact the Terrebonne Parish Council on Aging at (985) 868-8411 beginning Monday morning. Those residents with medical special needs that require shelter should contact the Louisiana Department of Health at 1-800-228-9409. A temporary pet shelter will begin operations this afternoon at the West Houma Gym on Williams Avenue. This temporary shelter is ONLY available for the pets of those residents who will be staying at the parish shelter at the Municipal Auditorium. Those going to the parish shelter should bring food, water, bedding and any other necessary supplies such as medications and baby supplies they will need to sustain themselves and their families for 72 hours (3 Days), as these items WILL NOT be provided at the shelter. The parish’s public transit system, Good Earth Transit, will suspend service in the parish beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Monday evening and service will be suspended until further notice. Bus service in the City of Thibodaux will not run at all on Monday and is also suspended until further notice. Garbage collection will run its normal schedule on Monday. Service will be suspended on Tuesday and will remain suspended until further notice. Bulky waste pick up request have been suspended as of this morning; however, the Crochetville, Ashland, and Schriever residential drop off sites for bulky waste will remain open until 8:00 p.m. today. The Ashland pick up station will cease accepting commercial waste at the close business today and will remain closed until further notice. All town hall meetings scheduled for this week have been canceled. Residents with livestock in the southern portions of the parish are encouraged to move their livestock to higher ground. Businesses looking to obtain re-entry badges should contact the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority at (985) 873-6890. All dialysis clinics in the parish will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Dialysis patients are directed to follow their emergency diet.
