Terrebonne Parish Government Partners for Tree Planting Houma, LA-Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and Bayou Land Resource Conservation and Development recently partnered to plant some 50 bald cypress trees on a flood prone parcel of land in Chauvin. The property located at 205 Pierre Street, was the site of a home that flooded on several occasions. Terrebonne Parish purchased this property with FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds associated with Hurricane Katrina. As part of this grant, the site was cleared and is mandated to remain open green space. The addition of the open land and bald cypress trees will provide a natural feature for flood water control. This area will also provide shade and protection from the wind for nearby properties. The trees for this project were donated by the Apache Foundation in response to a grant written by the Terrebonne Parish Department of Planning and Zoning. Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is seeking similar properties and volunteer groups to conduct like plantings.
