USCG Conducting Controlled Burn of Oil Spill in Lake Hatch O&G Field

Monday March 11, 2024 09:00 am - 584 Views - Posted By Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness

The Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard have notified TPCG that a controlled burn of an oil spill in the Lake Hatch Oil and Gas Field will be conducted beginning at 9 AM this morning.

The controlled burn is necessary to prevent further adverse impacts of the marsh sedimentation and root structures that may be caused by manual oil recovery operations.

The controlled burn will last approximately 4 hours and may produce a large black plume of smoke traveling to the southwest and west of the oil spill. This should not affect residential houses.
