Are You Ready?: An In-depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness

The Terrebonne Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is offering a two-day class on June 8th and 9th from 6:00PM to 9:00PM on “Are You Ready?: An In-depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness.” The class will be held at the North Terrebonne Library across from H. L. Bourgeois High School. The class is limited to 30 participants, so please register early. Are You Ready? provides a step-by-step approach to disaster preparedness by walking the participant through how to get informed about local emergency plans, how to identify hazards that affect their local area, and how to develop and maintain an emergency communications plan and disaster supplies kit. Other topics covered include evacuation, emergency public shelters, animals in disaster, and information specific to people with disabilities. A tour of the Emergency Operations Center will also be offered for those who would like to participate. In addition to the Are You Ready? class, the Terrebonne Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in partnership with the National Weather Service in Slidell, will offer a Skywarn/Weather 101 class on June 11th from 9:00AM to 1:00PM at the North Terrebonne Library. This class will feature meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Slidell who will provide the basics of severe weather, identification and how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service and discuss the operations of the National Weather Service. The Skywarn/Weather 101 class is limited to the first 100 registrants. You do not have to participate in the Are You Ready? class to attend the Skywarn/Weather 101 class.
