Description:
Terrebonne Parish Planning Department, together with the Houma Downtown Development Corporation, want you to fall back in love with Downtown Houma! They will be investigating techniques to activate the historic Main Street corridor through a demonstration day event. Scope of the event includes the realigning of Main Street into a single traffic lane, replacing parallel parking with angled parking and adding a bike lane. Other elements include pedestrian crosswalks, public art, pocket parks, pop-up shops in vacant storefronts, enhanced public amenities such as planters, shade sails and lighting, and a public outreach studio for public participation. The public’s participation and feedback throughout the event will be used to create a Master Plan for the corridor that will be implemented in future phases. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER 13 & 14.
The event kicks off with a short canine parade, after which awards for best dog costume, best owner/pet look alike costume, obedience, and others categories will be presented. There will also be a howling contest and the coronation of a king and queen based on essays submitted from the dog’s point of view.
Have fun swimming with pumpkins and the opportunity to pick out your favorite pumpkin. This event is open to families with children from the age of 1 to 12 years old. The event cost $5 for YMCA member and $10 for nonmembers.
The annual Rougarou Fest will feature live music, cultural activities, children’s activities, Cajun food, the Krewe Ga Rou parade, and more. Family-friendly. Admission is free. All proceeds go to the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center.
