The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides flexible funding to states and local governments for various community development activities. Since becoming a CDBG entitlement community in 1984, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government has improved the quality of life for numerous Terrebonne Parish residents by providing CDBG funded public improvement projects, public services, and affordable housing programs parishwide.
The Beautiful Beginnings Center, a homeless shelter for families with children has been funded in part by the CDBG Program for more than 25 years. In August of 2021, the center was substantially damaged by Hurricane Ida, which resulted in the closing of this vital community asset. Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is thrilled to announce that Beautiful Beginnings Center reopened its doors and began providing homeless services to families on August 8, 2024. The reopening of this facility would not have become a reality without operational funding provided by the Community Development Block Grant.
