Due to the recent heavy rains and unseasonably warm temperatures, areas of Terrebonne Parish are experiencing increased levels of adult pest mosquitoes. Although the bulk of these mosquitoes are of little concern for disease transmission, they can be and are very bothersome pests. Mosquito Control Services is responding to the increase in these pest mosquitoes by dispatching additional trucks and supplementing efforts with aircraft. This week, crews have provided daily treatments and will be spraying with trucks throughout the weekend (weather permitting). Aircraft will be used Monday or Tuesday next week to further suppress the population in high population areas. Elevated abatement efforts will continue until adult mosquito populations are returned to more acceptable levels.
AERIAL SPRAYING FOR MOSQUITOES
Mosquito Control Services is planning an aerial adulticiding mission to respond to nuisance mosquito activity on the evening of Monday November 9th, 2015 or Tuesday November 10th, 2015 between the hours of 5:30 and 8:30 pm. We will be using a Twin-Engine King air Aircraft that is white with red and blue stripes. The areas of treatment that will be included in this mission are Bayou Blue, South Houma, Bourg, Pointe-aux-Chenes, Montegut, Dulac, Dularge, Theriot, and Chauvin. If weather conditions on the evening of November 10th, 2015 force the cancellation of the scheduled flights, aerial spraying will take place on the first subsequent evening on which weather conditions permit.
