Autopsy Results

Pursuant to LA R.S. 33:1563 B. (1), the coroner may perform or cause to be performed by a competent physician an autopsy in any case in his discretion. The coroner shall perform or cause to be performed by a competent physician an autopsy in the case of any death where there is a public health risk and/or reasonable probability that the violation of a criminal statute has contributed to the death. An autopsy may be performed in all cases of infants under the age of one year who die unexpectedly without explanation. The autopsy shall include microscopic and toxicology studies.

Request Autopsy Results

You can obtain a copy of a completed autopsy report in writing by fax, mail, or in person. To expedite your request, provide as much information as possible.

There is a fee for an autopsy report. Do not send payment until you are notified that the report has been completed. Depending on the circumstances of the case and the laboratory tests required, the length of time necessary to complete each case may vary.

Proof of Death Letters are letters of confirmation that serve as Proof of Death for the Bureau of Vital Records of State of Louisiana. The Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office provides a letter of confirmation of each death that is reported to this office. This letter is not provided to families of the deceased; however, in circumstances where proof is needed immediately, Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office will provide a copy upon request.
