Field Technician II

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Field Technician II is responsible for learning the operation and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution facilities, assisting in all phases of gas line and meter installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance.

In this role, the incumbent will be expected to perform tasks required by CFR Part 192.801, including excavation, valve servicing, leak investigation, and line repairs.

The Field Technician II will support various gas line activities such as installation, maintenance, and safety inspections, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license
  • Maintain personal telephone service

  • Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of gas lines and meters.
  • Perform excavation tasks, including digging and cutting trenches for pipeline installation.
  • Service, lubricate, and maintain gas valves. • Investigate gas leaks and other potential malfunctions in the system.
  • Drive trucks to distribute materials, tools, and equipment required for gas line operations.
  • Test new service lines and equipment in the warehouse.
  • Perform general maintenance, including the upkeep of the shop, yard, and equipment.
  • Assist in repairing main and service lines, valves, and re-coating tasks.
  • Participate in safety meetings, job assignment meetings, and daily preparation activities.
  • Maintain and restock materials, parts, and tools required for daily tasks. • Ensure all tasks are performed in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Participate in quarterly and annual inspections, including valve inspections and cathodic protection system maintenance.
  • Assist with overhead inspections and ditch crossing inspections, as well as grass cutting and spraying at regulator stations.
  • Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
  • Complete all required annual trainings—including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity—in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
  • Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly and professionally relay information such as reporting issues, relaying information during safety meetings, and collaborating with team members and supervisors.
  • Organizational Skills: Must be meticulousness in tasks such as line inspections, equipment maintenance, testing new service lines, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with gas transmission and distribution systems, including valves, meters, pipelines, and safety regulations outlined in CFR Part 192.801. Ability to understand and operate tools, machinery, and equipment necessary for gas line installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED certification required.
    • One (1) year of work experience in a similar type of position associated with general construction desired.
    • Ability to become qualified on all tasks within the six-month probationary period of employment. During this time, employee will be allowed two attempts at each task to demonstrate qualification. Second failure will result in termination.
