Welder

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Welder is responsible for performing skilled welding, cutting, and maintenance work to support bridge operations and related infrastructure throughout the Parish.

In this role, the incumbent will be expected to work both in the shop and in the field, completing assigned welding tasks, assisting with routine and emergency bridge repairs, and supporting division operations.

  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license

  • Perform skilled welding and torch-cutting operations to support division maintenance and repair needs, both in the shop and in the field.
  • Assist with visual inspections of bridge structures to identify structural defects, corrosion, weld failures, alignment issues, and other safety concerns requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Operate cutting torches, generators, power tools, and small equipment—such as manlifts or forklifts—while ensuring all machinery and tools are used and maintained safely and in compliance with safety guidelines.
  • Conduct routine and emergency bridge maintenance and repairs on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual schedule as assigned.
  • Complete vehicle checklists, perform basic vehicle maintenance, and ensure all assigned equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Deliver bridge supplies and materials to designated bridge houses as required.
  • Inspect, adjust, and repair flashing lights, traffic lights, caution lights, and related signaling devices, including seasonal timer adjustments.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of No Wake signs in Parish waterways.
  • Support hurricane preparedness activities and participate in emergency response operations as needed.
  • Assist with bridge openings at unmanned bridges and provide operational support to the Roads Division when required.
  • Notify the Superintendent of material, supply, and equipment needs to maintain continuous operations.
  • Perform welding or cutting tasks for other divisions as directed by the Superintendent or Operations Supervisor.
  • Attend LTAP and other required training sessions to maintain technical proficiency and safety compliance.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and division procedures while promoting safe work practices among team members.
  • Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
  • Complete all required annual trainings—including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity—in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
  • Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.

  • Time Management: Effectively prioritizes tasks across daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal maintenance schedules to meet operational deadlines and minimize downtime.
  • Analytical Skills: Diagnoses structural and equipment issues by interpreting visual inspections, weld conditions, measurements, and work specifications to determine effective repair methods.
  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and respectfully with supervisors and crew regarding job status, safety concerns, material needs, and documents work performed through accurate logs and reports.
  • Organizational Skills: Maintains orderly work areas, tools, and vehicle inventories; tracks supplies and parts; and follows established procedures and maintenance schedules.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in welding and torch-cutting; operates and maintains cutting torches, generators, power tools, and small equipment (e.g., manlifts, forklifts) in compliance with safety standards and division protocols.
  • Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
    • Must be an experienced welder capable of performing skilled steel work.
