Crew Leader - Trees

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Crew Leader – Trees is responsible foroverseeing vegetation crew in the maintenance of public passageways and other assigned areas throughout Terrebonne Parish.

In this role, the incumbent will be expected to supervise assigned crew members, ensures safety compliance, maintains equipment readiness, and completes work order documentation.

The Crew Leader – Trees is also expected to direct daily work activities related to tree trimming, bush and weed control, landscaping, and equipment upkeep.
The role includes supporting downtown beautification efforts, camera maintenance, and assisting with seasonal and emergency response operations.

  • Valid Louisiana driver’s license
  • Chemical Applicator License with general standards and rights-of-way certification.

  • Supervise and direct daily crew activities related to vegetation maintenance, including trimming trees, cutting grass, and managing weeds and bushes in public rights-of-way.
  • Conduct daily tailgate meetings to review assignments, safety protocols, and crew readiness.
  • Review and assign daily work orders using the MGO system; close out completed tasks and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Conduct daily inspections of equipment including chainsaws, blowers, weed eaters, and vehicles; report issues to the supervisor or mechanic.
  • Ensure all crew members are equipped with and properly using required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of equipment; oversee weekly washing of units and upkeep of tools.
  • Monitor and refill DEF in units monthly as needed.
  • Organize and maintain supply bins in work trucks to ensure readiness and efficiency.
  • Train new employees in field operations, safety procedures, and equipment use.
  • Assist with camera maintenance at designated locations throughout the parish.
  • Support downtown operations including placement of American flags and banners for holidays and events.
  • Participate in annual activities such as Mardi Gras cleanup, hurricane response preparation, and Christmas decorations.
  • Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
  • Complete all required annual trainings—including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity—in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
  • Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.

  • Leadership Skills: Effectively supervises and motivates crew members, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational goals while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Time Management: Prioritizes and coordinates daily work orders, crew assignments, and equipment readiness to maintain consistent productivity.
  • Analytical Skills: Evaluates field conditions, equipment performance, and crew effectiveness to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly and professionally with team members, supervisors, and the public, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organizational Skills: Maintains structured schedules, accurate work order documentation, and well-organized equipment and supply inventories.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrates proficiency in operating and maintaining landscaping equipment including aerial lift trucks, tree chippers, tractors, and chemical application tools, managing digital work order systems, and performing minor mechanical repairs. Proficiently operates office software such as Microsoft 365 and the MGO work order platforms.
  • Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or GED certificate.
    • Minimum of one (1) years of experience in vegetation maintenance or related field preferred.
