Team Up to Build a New Playground for TPCG Children
Designed by kids, built by volunteers:
Starbucks Coffee Company, Bayouland YMCA, Houma Main Street Program and Kaboom! team up to build new playground in just one day for Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Goverment children
What: More than 200 volunteers from Starbucks Coffee Company, Bayouland YMCA, Houma Main Street Program and Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the local community will join forces on Friday, Sept. 10 to build a new, safe playground at the Downtown Marina. The new playground’s design is based on drawings created by children who participated in a Design Day event in July.
Why: The new playground will provide more than 1,500 children in Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government with a safe place to play. Currently, the children in the neighborhood don’t have a playground within walking distance to enjoy. The playground is the third built by KaBOOM! and Starbucks, and one of more than 180 KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2010 in an effort to provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
