Houma Elks Lodge #1193 Completes Pavilion Project to Support Local Veterans

The Houma Elks Lodge #1193 is proud to announce the successful completion of a community service project aimed at supporting local homeless Veterans housed at START Corp’s transitional Grant Per Diem (GPD) facility. Thanks to funding through the Elks National Foundation grant and the dedication of Lodge members, a brand-new covered pavilion, complete with a durable bench/table, has been constructed to serve as a communal gathering space for Veterans.

Recognizing a critical need for a shared space where Veterans could connect, attend support group meetings, and access community resources, Houma Elks Lodge #1193 took action. The Lodge provided the planning, labor, and funding necessary to complete the project. The pavilion will now serve as the official meeting site for START Corp’s monthly Vet-to-Vet Support Group and offer a comfortable place for residents to gather, share meals, and build friendships.

The Houma Elks would like to thank NOB Construction for helping to pour the slab and Kenneth Roddy Sr., General Contractor, for helping to put together the pavilion.

"The Elks have a long-standing commitment to serving Veterans, and this project reflects that mission," said Dr. Brenda Leroux Babin, Past Exalted Ruler/Board Chair. "We are proud to stand with the men and women who have served our country and to offer them a space that fosters connection, support, and dignity."

The Houma Elks Lodge has also committed to continuing its support by providing monthly meals for veterans at START Corp, further reinforcing its dedication to uplifting those who have given so much.

Through projects like this, the Houma Elks Lodge #1193 reaffirms its deep commitment to serving the needs of the local community, especially our nation’s heroes.
