TPCG Tree Board Will Host the 20th Annual Tree Giveaway Saturday, Jan. 24
TERREBONNE PARISH TREE BOARD ANNOUNCES 20TH ANNUAL TREE GIVEAWAY
The Terrebonne Parish Tree Board is excited to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their Annual Tree Giveaway on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Main Library in Houma, LA. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the Tree Giveaway begins at 9 a.m.
To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the Tree Board is excited to announce the distribution of 400 trees this year, which is twice as many as in previous giveaways!
This event is for Terrebonne Parish residents only and is limited to two trees per household.
The following trees will be available and will be in three-gallon sized containers:
- Bald Cypress
- Live Oak
- Nuttal Oak
- Shumard Oak
- Swamp Red Maple
- River Birch
For nearly two decades, this annual giveaway was supported through the Apache Foundation’s Tree Grant Program, along with the continued efforts of the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board. This partnership has helped Terrebonne Parish residents benefit from the physical and mental health advantages of being exposed to healthy, lush trees. Together, the Apache Foundation and the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board have distributed over 3,500 trees that were planted throughout Terrebonne Parish.
The LaTerre Master Gardeners, LSU AgCenter, Terrebonne Garden Club, and members of the Terrebonne Parish Tree Board will be on site at the giveaway to assist each resident in choosing the right tree from a selection of native Louisiana species and instruct them on how to plant and care for their tree of choice.
Additionally, Keep Terrebonne Beautiful will be on site to conduct a tree planting demonstration beginning at 8 a.m. as part of their Retreet Program. Check out their flyer for more information on the Retreet Program and to find out if you are eligible for their free tree planting event on January 17.
The purpose and goal of the Tree Board is the planting and preservation of trees on Parish-owned public properties to enhance stormwater mitigation, air and water quality, economic development, community livability, and public appreciation of trees.
The Tree Board typically meets the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in the Government Tower’s first floor conference room. For more information on the Tree Board, visit tpcg.org/treeboard.
