Terrebonne Parish Library invites Community to Celebrate National Medal Honor
The Terrebonne Parish Library System invites the public to celebrate a historic milestone during its National Medal Celebration on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library, 151 Library Drive in Houma.
The Terrebonne Parish Library System was recently named a National Medal for Museum and Library Service recipient — the nation's highest honor for libraries. The award recognizes libraries that demonstrate exceptional service, innovation, and lasting impact within their communities. Terrebonne Parish Library is the only public library in the state of Louisiana to receive this award. The honor has been bestowed by IMLS, a government agency, since 1994.
The FREE celebration will begin with the official National Medal Presentation at 10 a.m. in the Main Library's Large Meeting Room. Following the ceremony, the library will host a full day of entertainment, food, and family-friendly activities as a way of thanking the community for its continued support.

- Live music by the Houma Terrebonne Stage Band featuring music from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s

"This celebration is our opportunity to thank the patrons, volunteers, community partners, and residents whose support has helped make the Terrebonne Parish Library System what it is today," said Terrebonne Parish Library Director Mary Cosper LeBoeuf. "This national recognition belongs to our entire community, and we invite everyone to join us as we celebrate this remarkable achievement together."
The National Medal Celebration is free and open to the public. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and help commemorate this historic honor while enjoying a day of music, food, and fun at the library.
